For this project in art, We copied an artist named Wayne Thiebaud. I went off of his cupcake drawing. I took a risk adding then green highlight next to the red stripe to give it a contrast. I thought that this was a very cool project and I love working with the oil pastels. I developed skill when I was learning about shading with colors that are opposite on the color wheel.

The next thing that we did in class was embroidery. We had to first learn how to do 8 different stitches. My favorite one was the chain stitch. To begin creating original art, we had to put the embroidery paper into the hoop. For my design, I choose to do a llama. I had to take risks and try all new stitches. I actually had an easy time to put the embroidery floss into the eye of the needle. I am still in the process of finishing it up!
In art, we started to do some work with printmaking. To begin we started with the EZ carve blocks and carved into them with a carving tool. The carving tool had 5 different sized carvers. After we made the smaller blocks, we moved onto the linoleum blocks. After we carved into them, we used the brayer to put the ink onto our cravings and transfer them onto paper. Unfortunately, I never got to finish mine because whenever Mrs.Haggerty has a free period, I have class and whenever I have a free period, she has class.
For the unit on pottery, I made 6 different pieces. For all 6 of my pieces, I created my own original art. All of the pieces started out as wet clay slabs/balls of clay then from there, I took risks on the way that I sculpted them into different shapes and sizes. Once they were shaped, I had to wait until they were bone dry so that I could have them be fired in the kiln. After they were fired, I was ready to glaze them, and then have the pieces go back into the kiln and then they were finished. This was one of my favorite units that we have done so far.

I hear the trees swaying in the wind. I smell the fresh smell of the grass. I need a blanket to lay on the ground so I can sit and admire more of the nature. I am going to come back here everyday. I feel the wind brush up against my face. I want to keep this a sacred place for me. Dear Lucy, I am writing to you from the middle of the woods. I hope one day that you can come to this special place with me. I haven’t seen anybody here since I first discovered it last week. It is the perfect place to get to go to and just relax yourself. It is a very quite but unique place. See you soon. Your dear friend, Lizzy In art class, we have done and learned a lot. We started off with drawing on the right side of the brain. I exhibited drawing on the right side of the brain starting with the Upside down man. We had to cover the upside down man with a piece of paper and then draw the lines as we moved the other piece of paper that revealed more of the lines to draw. After that we did blind contour. We put a piece of paper in a bag and used a sharpie and without looking, tried to draw the person that was sitting across from us at the table. This was the first time I created original art. Then we did two drawings of our hands in which for one we just traced it and the added raised lines almost to make it more life-like. The second one was a shaded in hand that we also made it more life-like.
For the next part of drawing on the right side of the brain, we started with ink drawings. I started with the illuminated letter and with that, I had to take risks and see what I wanted to put into my letter to make it different from someone else. Then I uploaded a picture of my kitty Leo that I made with the ink pen. |
